There are a lot of planets out of our solar system. Every star is the sky has to have at least one planet next to it. There at least 100 billion stars in our galaxy the Milky Way that means there is at least 100 billion planets in the Milky Way . Some of the researchers also estimate that there are about 10 billion stars with planets habitable zone that means there are might be billions of habitable planets in the Milky Way.
In a typical solar system approximately four planets have their orbits in the terrestrial zone that is the distance from the star where you can find solid planets planets. In average there 1.6 planets in the area around the stars. Out side off our solar system there are a lot of planets that we don't know about thats why some scientist are trying to find out a way to explore other planets that we do not know about.
There could be planets that have life on some of the planets far out in space. So far their is 729 planets that where identified on January 25, 2012. now its known that a substantiai fracion of stars have planets that includs perhaps half of a sun like stars. The discoveries, announced that on October 19, 2009 at a prees briefing in portugal, increase to more than 400 the number of known extrasolar planets or exoplanets.

Astronomers located some of the first planets outside of our solar system in 1995 and in september 17 2002 a international team of researchers have discovered the 100th extrasolar planets. The seach team of U.S., UK, and Australian astronomers uses a very powerful telescopes in California,Hawaii, and Astralia to locate these faraway planets.The team used an Anglo Australian telescope in New south Wales, Australia to detect new planets.
